Local Groups and Societies in and Around KBS

We are very fortunate to have so many wonderful local clubs and societies within KBS and the surrounding areas. Below, you’ll find more information about each one, including contact details if you’re interested in getting involved.

Kingston Bagpuize Millennium Green

The Millennium Green is a beautiful and peaceful nature reserve behind the tall trees down the Old Oxford Road.

It was established by a group of villagers who planted 2000 trees to celebrate the Millennium. It is now an independent Charitable Trust owned and run by villagers. The Green acts as a natural haven in the centre of the village between the new large housing estates.

It’s home to all sorts of sporting activities from yoga to football. There is a Junior Parkrun every Sunday morning. The Great Easter Egg Hunt on EasterSunday and the Boxing Day walk are two of the traditional events on the Green.

The whole  village has voted twice on whether to allow dogs on the Green and on both occasions the majority voted against. Every aspect of running the Green is done by villagers, from event management to working parties.

Volunteers are always welcome.

KBS Art and Craft Club

We are a group with a common interest in art, crafts and chatting over tea and biscuits. If art and crafts are not what you do, chatting over tea and biscuits is just fine, but there are many opportunities to give things a try without any pressure.

Each has skills in different areas that include, crochet, knitting, sewing, card making, embroidery, sketching and water colouring and all are happy to share these. Over the years we have explored card making, book binding, and glass painting. We are also lucky in to be able invite guess to give talks and demonstrations in various areas chosen by members.

But one of the biggest and most enjoyable parts is making friends and sharing a common interest. We now have a Facebook page “KBS Village Art and Craft Club” for anyone interested in seeing the kind of things we make.

The club meets on alternate Mondays throughout the year in the St John the Baptist Church Hall, Kingston Bagpuize, starting at 09.30 and finishing at midday. The first meeting Is free and thereafter £3 each session with coffee, tea and biscuits provided.

If you would like further information please do not hesitate to contact Jean Allsworth - mobile number listed above.

Regular classes are held at Longworth Village Hall on Monday evenings and Tuesday at noon. Classes run all year.

Longworth Hall has a long history of regular yoga classes and contains a large amount of yoga equipment which can be used in class.

Kingston Bagpuize and Southmoor Bowls Club

Bowling is a growing sport, and a great opportunity for all ages to participate from juniors to pensioners. With a bit of coaching and practice, you'll be surprised how quickly you are playing to a good standard.

We are a thriving and very friendly lawn bowls club located 300 metres down the Oxford Road on the right hand side, next door to the Millenium Green, with plenty of parking.

As we have an all-weather floodlit green, we are able to play all year round. We participate in numerous local leagues and have a number of members who play at a county level, one of whom is one of our junior members. We have many club members' competitions played throughout the year and have roll-up sessions twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. During the Winter months we also have members playing in an indoor short mat league.

In addition to bowls, we have an active social programme throughout the year for members, held at the clubhouse where we have a bar offering a wide range of alcoholic and soft drinks. As we will be celebrating our 30th anniversary in 2026, we are planning a wide range of events both on and off the green.

If you would like to join us and would like to try your hand at bowls, please feel free to contact our Hon Secretary, where we can arrange for you to come and try your hand at bowls with one of our members or simply join in at one of our Roll-up sessions. All you need is a pair of trainers and we will provide the bowls.

We are also able to provide a fun away day for local businesses and societies, providing a fun introduction to bowls including a buffet or BBQ. We will be holding an Open Day in May 2026 where we welcome all those wanting to try their hand at bowls and learn what the club has to offer.

Beyond traditional workouts: exploring the joy and effectiveness of
Fitsteps Dance Fitness

Fitsteps offers a dynamic and engaging dance fitness programme within the Kingston Bagpuize and Southmoor community. It provides a welcoming environment dedicated to making the elegance and energy of Ballroom and Latin dancing accessible for fitness and dance enthusiasts of all levels and ages.

The core objective is to deliver a fun, effective, and accessible workout experience that intergrates authentic steps from dances such as the Waltz, Rumba, Cha Cha Cha and Jive, amongst many others, into structured, easy-to-follow routines.

Fitsteps is a non-partner-based dance fitness format, co-created by professional dancers from Strictly Come Dancing, Ian Waite and Natalie Lowe. The classes are designed to enhance several aspects of physical well-being:

  • Cardiovascular health: routines provide high-energy, full-body movement to boost stamina.

  • Muscular toning: focus is placed on strengthening and defining the core an major muscle groups.

  • Coordination and cognitive function: learning and executing the dance steps helps improve balance and mental acuity.

Our ethos emphasises community, enjoyment, and mental well-being, positioning the class as an uplifting alternative to traditional gym workouts. Prior dance experience is not required to participate, ensuring inclusivity for all prospective
members.
Fitsteps classes are hosted weekly at the Kingston Bagpuize and Southmoor Village Hall, providing a consistent schedule for regular attendees. The teacher, Nancy, focuses on integrating a full range of Ballroom and Latin styles for an invigorating workout, held on Tuesdays from 2.30 to 3.30pm. All steps are broken down and shown and modifications are given for lower or higher impact, designed to cater to beginners, those recovering from injury, or individuals preferring a gentler pace, as well as all other levels of fitness and ability.

Abingdon & KBS Pilates

Max your Core Strength Pilates is a fantastic way to strengthen your body and get the best out of it.

Developed over 100 years ago by Joseph Pilates, his exercises have been adapted and improved in-line with modern understanding of human movement.

Good Core strength is an essential element of a healthy body without pain.

My Pilates classes are focussed on improving your body so it works at its best for you and is pain free.

In coming to my classes, you will be instructed in Pilates exercises that strengthen 2 sets of muscles that stabilise your core and optimise your movement.

The 2 sets of muscles are the, inner 'stabilisers' and Outer 'Moving' muscle groups. They both need to be trained very differently and I ensure this is achieved during every class I teach.

My classes are matwork based and do not need any equipment. They are challenging, rewarding and most importantly fun and delivered with good humour.

They are designed to cater for all abilities and goal orientations. So whether you are new to Pilates or have done it before, my classes will benefit you and help you achieve your goals.

New to Pilates?

If you are new to Pilates then my classes are ready to help you get the best out of your body quickly and effectively. We are always able to accommodate new pupils so come along a join my other pupils and get the benefits of Pilates today!
